THE AMAZON IS NOT FOR SALE
In August 2025, Ecuador's government quietly announced plans to auction 3.5 million hectares of virgin Amazon rainforest to oil multinationals, without the consent of the seven indigenous nations who call it home. Jane Fonda and more than thirty international allies stood with them. Sapiens was there to film their message to the world.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Numbers don’t move people. People move people. 3.5 million hectares of primary forest. Seven indigenous nations. A consultation process the courts had already declared fraudulent. The facts were devastating, but facts alone rarely cross borders. Nemonte Nenquimo had already beaten the Ecuadorian government in court once. José Gualinga had watched his territory shrink for decades. The provinces where oil has been extracted for fifty years are today the poorest in Ecuador. Our reel their leadership at the center of a campaign that became the most successful in Amazon Frontlines’ history.

Amazon Frontlines and Alianza Ceibo convened a coalition of more than thirty artists, scientists and activists from across the world, among them Jane Fonda, Lupita Nyong’o, Emma Thompson, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Viggo Mortensen, Gael García Bernal, David Suzuki and Gillian Anderson, united behind one demand: The Amazon is Not for Sale!
