COP30: BEYOND THE GREEN PROMISE
COP30, the UN Climate Change Conference held in Brazil, brought the world's governments together to discuss global commitments in the face of the climate crisis, the same stage where the energy transition is celebrated as a collective promise. In that context, Sapiens covered the stories of those who carry its highest cost, indigenous peoples displaced by hydroelectric dams, Amazonian communities and children contaminated by decades of oil extraction, and collectives resisting the advance of extractive economies.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The throughline across these stories is not in the promises of sustainability but in the logic that undermines them. Indigenous territories turned into energy infrastructure, forests reduced to monocultures, communities contaminated by decades of extraction. Sapiens approached each case by exposing the economic and political structures that allow that pattern to repeat, and by making space for those who bear its consequences.
